Instead of the square photodiodes of conventional digital cameras, the Super CCD has octagonal photodiodes and pixels in an interwoven pattern that dramatically increases the effective resolution. This ingenious approach allows for larger photodiodes which ensure higher light-collecting efficiency. That's why the Super CCD increases sensitivity and offer a much wider dyamic range. These attributes have increased the singal-to-noise ratio. The result is more natural, lifelike color in every picture.
